Functional neurology is a non-drug, non-surgical option of care for those with neurologically-based health problems. Traditionally, neurology tends to look at disease of the nervous system as black or white, with one side being optimal neurologic function and the other being a neurological disease, such as a tumor, stroke, etc. Functional neurology looks at dysfunction of the nervous system as different shades of gray, looking for subtle changes before they become distinct problems.
At Advanced Chiropractic Center, Dr. Walicki uses functional neurology in different ways based on each individual patient’s needs. If a patient comes in with only a brain condition, then Dr. Walicki may use functional neurology as a standalone treatment to help restore proper function in a specific area of the brain. If a person comes into our office with a chiropractic (musculoskeletal) problem, but they also have a brain component affecting their condition, then they can choose to receive functional neurological care in addition to their chiropractic care. Blending these two treatment modalities can speed up recovery times.
Conversely, if a patient comes in with a brain disorder made worse by certain metabolic, hormonal and/or immune imbalance(s), Dr. Walicki can recommend combining functional neurological integration with functional medicine. Lastly, some patients who come to our office have aspects of problems in their brain, body and chemical systems all affecting each other. In this instance, their care may consist of tying together a treatment plan using functional neurology, chiropractic care, and functional medicine to make improvements.
