Neck pain is one of the most common health complaints in our modern world, and it has a number of different causes. Our team at Advanced Chiropractic Center knows just about all there is to know about neck pain, and we want to help you get the relief you deserve. In this article, we’ll go over a few tips on how to alleviate the pain in your neck.
- Adjust Your Computer Monitor. One of the most common causes of neck pain is looking down at your computer screen for many hours a day. This position puts stress on your neck and spine, leading to pain. To prevent this pain, we recommend positioning your computer monitor at eye level so that you can sit up straight and hold your neck in its most natural position while you work. If you use a laptop, you can elevate the computer and use a separate keyboard or link it to a wall-mounted monitor.
- Use a Phone Headset. Another common cause of neck pain is tilting the head to one side in order to talk on the phone. While doing this for short periods will generally not cause problems, holding your head in that position for long periods will definitely put stress on your neck. To avoid doing this, we recommend using a headset whenever you need to talk on the phone for long stretches.
- Stretch Periodically. A third strategy for preventing or alleviating neck pain is to periodically stretch your neck to get rid of any building tension. Some essential neck stretches to try include tucking your chin, turning your face from side to side, and tilting your head in both directions. The idea is to move your neck through its full range of motion to prevent stiffness.
