Our team at Advanced Chiropractic Center has the right training and experience to help with a variety of complaints and symptoms, and one of the problems we can help you with is sciatica. If you’ve never heard this term, keep reading to find out more about what it is and how we can treat it.
- What it Is. Sciatica gets its name from the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back, where it branches out, and down into the hips, buttocks, legs, and feet. This condition is characterized by pain that radiates along this nerve, which typically affects only one side of the body. It is caused by the nerve becoming compressed, usually due to a herniated disc, a bone spur on the spine, or the spine simply narrowing somewhere along its length. The pain of this condition is often severe, but fortunately it can usually be alleviated with non-operative treatment within just a few weeks.
- How to Treat It. Since sciatica is caused by compression of the sciatic nerve, the way to treat this condition is to alleviate that pressure. Our chiropractic experts will use manual pressure to adjust your spine and gradually bring it back into the correct alignment, which will lessen that pinching effect and eventually get rid of it altogether. Once your sciatic nerve is no longer being compressed, you shouldn’t experience any more pain and will be able to get back to your regular routine. If you are experiencing pain in your lower back, through your hips and butt, or in your legs, we encourage you to give us a call.
